Lukman Harees
Author, Writer, Human Rights Activist and Political Commentator
Lukman Harees, AIB (SL) LLB (SL), MBA (Sri J) is an award-winning UK based writer, author and a political commentator of Sri Lankan heritage. Most recently he received the “Outstanding Contribution to Literature” award during the BRISLA Awards 2023 held on Friday 20th October 2023, at the Caledonian Club in London.
He is a regular writer to Colombo Telegraph and Islam21C, UK and also contributes to international media on local and international politics such as TRT World Turkey and Middle East Monitor.
He was a panel speaker at the UN parallel event held in Geneva in 2018 on communal attacks in Sri Lanka. He is also a human rights activist and was a Trustee and a Director of UK-based Acre (Alliance for Cohesion and Racial Equality) which supports victims of racism and is a director in a human rights body in UK. He is well versed in both English as well as Sinhala (a local language in Sri Lanka).
He was the head of Human Resources Development (HRD) at Commercial Bank, Sri Lanka, before leaving for settlement in the UK with his family. Presently he is pursuing Doctoral Studies in Human Rights
